Excelfore® announces availability of Ethernet Audio-Video Bridging (AVB) Camera Module

EAVB Camera Module to be demonstrated at CES 2015

Fremont California, 18 December 2014 –Excelfore, an innovative provider of AVB interconnect technologies, announced today the availability of an Ethernet AVB-ready camera module, enabled by Broadcom Corporation’s BroadR-Reach® automotive Ethernet technology.

Excelfore’s small form factor reference camera module incorporates the advanced STV0991FA Imaging Processor and a high dynamic range CMOS image sensor VG6640A, both by STMicroelectronics. The AVB camera is designed for automotive and industrial environments, and is housed in a small robust package. It has an image resolution of 1304×980 pixels and can deliver up to 60 frames per second (fps) in 720p mode. The camera module features a horizontal field of view (HFOV) of more than 185° and support for BroadR-Reach automotive Ethernet connectivity (full-duplex 100Mbps) via unshielded twisted pair wiring. “Solutions based on our BroadR-Reach automotive Ethernet technology deliver a scalable architecture and connectivity backbone to power high-bandwidth, advanced driver safety features,” said Timothy Lau, Director of Automotive, Broadcom Corporation. “Our collaboration with leading companies throughout the automotive ecosystem demonstrates our commitment to further proliferate Ethernet as the standard of choice in automotive connectivity.” “As a pioneer in the development of AVB, we are happy to bring our first AVB camera to market in record time,” said Shrikant Acharya, CTO of Excelfore Corporation. “This intelligent camera will rapidly become a key component of ADAS by reducing ECU computation requirements.” This camera design, validated using AVnu approved AVB Switches, is a strong contender for modern automotive applications:

  • In-camera Image metrics to support ADAS computations
  • Optical Flow
  • Edge Detection
  • Secondary channel provides meta-data
  • HDR image processing
  • MJPEG or H.264 video encoding with ultra-low latency
  • Fisheye image correction
  • Graphics overlay
  • Video analytics

The camera is AVB compliant to specific requirements of operating performance in terms of robustness, latency and operability in AVB network and multi-camera exposure synchronization. It follows the ISO17215 standard for control protocol. The typical automotive applications include ADAS, Rear-View Camera and Surround-View Camera.
