Key AVB protocols shape the network traffic to give priority to mission-critical data & build redundancy into networks in safety-critical domains:
➤ Transport Protocol: IEEE1722 (AVTP)
➤ Credit-based shaper: IEEE 802.1Qav / 802.1Qat
➤ AVDECC Support: IEEE1722.1
➤ Application specific configurations: 802.1BA

Application 1
Infotainment, Instrument Clusters & Audio Amplifiers:
Enhanced Infotainment Clusters
AVB (Audio-Video Bridging) provides guaranteed bandwidth and synchronization for data streams.
High-definition video & audio contents now move seamlessly between digital devices with synchronization and no caching delays.

Application 2
Surround-View Camera Cluster
Protocol stacks from Excelfore helped a global automotive Tier-1 supplier to implement a surround-view camera cluster for a major European automaker. Four 100MB Ethernet AVB links were implemented, with “Talkers” pushing IEEE 1722 AVTP (AV Transport Protocol) streams from high resolution digital video cameras, which are then received by the “Listeners”.
IEEE 802.1AS gPTP (general Precision Time Protocol) is then used to synchronize the consolidated view with high precision. The solution was implemented in a small RTOS.
Drivers get an integrated view of all sides of their vehicle, effectively a “bird’s eye” perspective, to assist in precise handling of their vehicles when parking or navigating tight alleyways.
